Welcome to Old Elk’s virtual herd. As you get to know us and our brands, you’ll see that at Old Elk Distillery, located in Fort Collins, Colorado, craft is everything.

 

We were founded by entrepreneur, Curt Richardson, the innovator who created OtterBox and Blue Ocean Enterprises and are proud to have Greg Metze as our Master Distiller.

 

Excellence doesn’t come from riding trends, but from experience and patience. Our products are made with passion, enthusiasm, and a knack for innovation. Old Elk’s award-winning whiskey line-up uses our signature Slow Cut proofing process. Whiskeysmith Co. is made with true-to-taste flavors for both the tastemakers and whiskey enthusiasts. 

 

We’re not ones for shortcuts and we hope that shows. We are the distillery where craft meets quality. 

If we were in person we’d be able to let the liquid speak for itself, if you're a bartender or in hospitality you can request a tasting!... but we’ll do our best to do it and your time justice! In 2013, Old Elk approached legendary distiller and industry veteran, Greg Metze to create a smooth and easy premium bourbon. With over four decades of experience combined with zero restrictions and just those two descriptors, he knew just what to do.

 

“From my experience, I knew that malted barley was the key ingredient needed to create that so I did some backwards math. I started with the minimum amount of corn (51 percent), then upped the malted barley to 34 percent to create that smooth taste and added a touch of rye for some spice (15 percent),” says Master Distiller, Greg Metze.

TEN TO ONE DARK RUM
A masterful blend of 8-year-old Barbados, Dominican and Trinidadian column still rums individually aged in ex-Bourbon American oak casks, and combined with high ester unaged Jamaican pot still rum. 100% rum with no added sugar, coloring, or flavoring. 40% ABV
OLD ELK BOURBON

In addition to the wealth of knowledge and experience that went into our liquid, Old Elk Bourbon is handcrafted using a meticulous Slow Cut™ proofing process. All of the bourbon is taken out of the barrel at cask strength.

 

Traditionally, this process takes 24-48 hours. However, we choose to do it for a significantly longer period of time at very small increments. We call this patient technique Slow Cut™ proofing and we’re one of the only distilleries out there who has officially made this a part of the process. Our choice to extend the life of the proofing time to keep the liquid cool allows us to bottle every last drop of flavor.

TASTING NOTES:

Aroma: Sweet vanilla and caramel, clove spice, slight maple, and nutty almond

Taste: Maple syrup, almond, raw bran, chocolate, deep wood and coconut

Mouthfeel: Smooth and rich with a long finish
